At Warrnambool West Primary School we provide a friendly, caring and safe environment that:
- Maximises learning, personal growth and wellbeing for all students.
- Creates a stimulating and supportive environment for all teachers.
- Assists, informs and involves all parents.
Our purpose is based on our vision of creating life-long learners who are engaged with their community by providing a stimulating environment that allows students to achieve their full potential by promoting an education of real value that produces proud, engaged students who are skilled, flexible, responsible, resilient and creative.
At Warrnambool West Primary School we understand that “support for wellbeing and engagement is fundamental to ensuring children and young people to reach their potential. Support for wellbeing and engagement should encompass both prevention and intervention strategies, at both a group and individual level.” (DET 2015)
We have a full time Wellbeing Co-ordinator, highly trained staff, support programs, excellent facilities (specific school spaces), community partners and professionals that work in a collaborative and co-operative manner to ensure that all students are engaged with their learning and that their well-being (physical, emotional, social) needs are met.
We are a ‘KidsMatter’ School and utilise the exceptional resources and support that this wonderful program provides for schools, students and families.
“KidsMatter is a mental health and wellbeing framework for primary schools and is proven to make a positive difference to the lives of Australian children. KidsMatter provides the proven methods, tools and support to help schools work with parents and carers, health services and the wider community, to nurture happy, balanced kids.”
We focus on several particular areas to ensure that our students (and their families) are highly motivated to learn and are genuinely ‘cared for’. These areas include:
- Positive approaches to behaviour
- Encouraging student (and family) participation
- Holistic individual support
- Engaging and informing parents and families
